Eat Drink Local Week, Day 2: Drink Local at Black Willow Winery

Today’s DRINK destination for Eat Drink Local Week is Black Willow Winery.  Located a stone’s throw from Lake Ontario in Burt, the winery provides a uniquely local experience right on the Niagara Wine Trail.

Black Willow has a varied selection that includes red, white, blush, chardonnay and Riesling wines. In keeping with rising fruit wine trends, they offer up the Black Willow Berry- a red wine with an intense blackberry flavor. What may be most interesting at the winery though is their mead selection. Mead, a white wine made from honey, is an ancient drink full of history and superstition. Black Willow is the only winery producing it in Western New York, and the honey used to make it is sourced locally from area apiaries.

Black Willow also offers unique tastings. For $10 the winery offers a chocolate pairing that includes four different wines tasted alongside four different chocolates. Riesling with chocolate-covered potato chip bark? Black Willow Berry with a strawberry-balsalmic truffle? Delicious. They also have a visiting food truck on occasion, Pizza Amore, that gives customers the chance to pair wood-fired pizzas alongside their wine selections.
